Breakdown of a portfolio across economic sectors.
Sector allocation shows how a portfolio is distributed across the eleven GICS sectors (Technology, Healthcare, Financials, Consumer Discretionary, Consumer Staples, Energy, Utilities, Industrials, Materials, Communication Services, Real Estate). It often says more about a manager's market thesis than any single position.
From 13F holdings, sector allocation can be computed after mapping CUSIPs to tickers and industry classifications. On Whaleboard it is rendered as a donut chart per quarter, making sector rotations across time easy to spot.
