Filing Period (Period of Report)
Quarter-end record date as of which the holdings reported in a 13F were held.
The "Period of Report" is the date as of which the holdings disclosed in a 13F were actually held — always the last calendar day of a quarter (March 31, June 30, September 30 or December 31). The filing itself is submitted up to 45 days later.
For analysis the Period of Report is what matters, not the filing date: a position held as of June 30 may already be sold by the time the filing publishes in mid-August. This lag is the most important structural limitation of 13F data.
