13F-HR (Holdings Report)

The standard variant of the 13F filing, containing the full list of reportable holdings.

13F-HR stands for "Holdings Report" and is the standard variant of the 13F filing. It contains the full table of reportable US security positions held by an institutional investment manager as of the quarter-end record date.

Each row in a 13F-HR carries the issuer name, the security class (e.g. COM for common stock), the CUSIP, the market value in thousands of US dollars, the share or contract count, investment discretion (SOLE, DEFINED, OTHER) and voting authority. This structured data makes the 13F-HR machine-readable and the foundation of any serious 13F analysis.

Distinguish the 13F-HR from the 13F-NT (Notice), where a manager simply states that its holdings are reported in another affiliated manager's filing, and from the 13F-CTR (Combined Report), where multiple related managers report together.
