Family Office
Private wealth management vehicle for large family fortunes, often with a hedge-fund-like investment style.
A family office manages the wealth of a single wealthy family (single family office) or multiple families (multi family office). Well-known examples include Bill Gates' Cascade Investment and Bill Hwang's former Archegos Capital. Family offices often invest with very long horizons, high concentration and broad flexibility.
If a family office holds more than $100 million in reportable US equities, it is also subject to the 13F filing requirement. That makes family offices one of the most interesting — and least covered — categories in the 13F universe.
